The revered Adi Badri Temple in Chamoli district is set to reopen its doors to devotees on January 14, 2025, coinciding with the auspicious festival of Makar Sankranti. This temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is a significant part of the Panch Badri circuit, which encompasses five sacred shrines in Uttarakhand.
The temple closed its doors on December 15, 2024, for the Paush month, a time reserved for temple maintenance and rituals. This yearly closure helps preserve the temple’s sanctity and allows for essential repairs during the harsh winter conditions in the area.
Located about 17 kilometers away from Karnaprayag, Adi Badri Temple has long been an important destination for pilgrims, particularly when reaching the main Badrinath shrine became difficult due to weather conditions. In ancient times, devotees worshipped Lord Vishnu at this temple when they couldn’t access the primary Badrinath shrine.
Visitors planning to attend the reopening should check for travel advisories and make arrangements ahead of time, keeping in mind the temple’s location in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand. The Archaeological Survey of India manages the temple’s upkeep, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
