Historic Rashtrapati Ashiana Now Open to Visitors in Dehradun

Rashtrapati Ashiana, the President’s official retreat in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, is set to open its doors to the public starting April 2025. This 186-year-old heritage site, located on Rajpur Road, spans 21 acres and has been a significant landmark in the region.

The decision to open the estate to the public was made under the directives of President Droupadi Murmu. In November 2024, officials from the President’s Secretariat visited Dehradun to coordinate with state authorities and finalize arrangements for public access to the estate. A high-level meeting, chaired by Principal Secretary Rakesh Gupta from the President’s Secretariat, was held to outline plans for facilitating public entry.

The 21-acre estate, Rashtrapati Ashiana, currently home to the President’s Bodyguard (PBG) regiment of the Indian Army, will allow visitors to explore its rich history. Highlights include the main building, displays showcasing the 251-year legacy of the PBG regiment, and an equestrian facility that has been in operation for 186 years.

This initiative is part of the President’s plan to open up presidential estates across the country to the public, as stated by the state government.
